Recruitment Agency Information Gathering

http://jobs.manpower.com.au/user/manpower_privacy.cfm

Someone tell me why a recruitment mob would want to get, and possibly distribute, the following information:
  • racial or ethnic origin;
  • political opinion;
  • membership of a political association or religious beliefs, affiliations or philosophical beliefs;
  • sexual preferences or practices;

These things should have no bearing on whether you get the job or not. The following sentence is a little worrying, the term 'in most cases' leaves them to do whatever they want.

Sensitive information can, in most cases, only be disclosed with your consent.

ummm..because recruitment agencies are dodgy motherfuckers?

They harvest information and profile people, i know that for a fact. Who they share that info with, I cant be sure...

The WA Equal Opportunity Act (1984) states (in summary) -

It is unlawful to discriminate on the grounds of:

* sex
* marital status
* pregnancy
* race
* religious or political conviction
* impairment
* age
* family responsibility
* family status
* sexual orientation
* gender history.

So I'd refuse to provide that information on the grounds that it's use is unlawful and therefore collection of it is a similarly dodgy area.

We all know that dodgy pricks will try and push people as far as they can go because most people won't fight back.

When someone does fight back they tidy up their mess for a while to keep the government/law off their back, then when the dust has settled they return to screwing us all over...
